Exertional rhabdomyolysis occurs when muscle tissue breaks down and releases substances into the bloodstream after intense or prolonged physical activity. If you think you might have developed a case of exertional rhabdo, it is important to immediately rush to the hospital to get a blood test and IV if necessary because the earliest you can undergo treatment the better. Once in the hospital, the main treatments are rest and extreme hydration/IV to allow the damaged muscles to heal and flush out all the harmful substances in your bloodstream. If your case of Rhabdo is more serious, your kidneys could be in danger and you may have to take medications to help prevent kidney damage.
